“Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.”
- James 3:10
The most difficult thing to control is our mouth. Someone has said that if a man can control his tongue, he can command well his mind and body. I mean to say that we should be careful what we say, about the words, or expressions we use. Let’s use our words to bless, not to curse. We also need to guard our heart well, because according to the Bible, the words we say come from the heart. Meaning, if we have evil on the inside, then this will come out with our words, but if we keep our heart well, and fill it with the things of God, then we will bless with our words. The Bible teaches us that both the heart and the tongue are very wicked. In Jeremiah 17:9, the Bible says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked…”. Many of the famous crowd, from movies, or from the music world, tell our kids that they should follow their heart. I am sure that you have heard the expression, “Follow your heart!”. According to the Bible, this is not good advice. We should follow God and seek His will. Also, in James 3:8, the Bible says, “But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.” So today, let’s guard our heart (our inward thoughts) and our tongue (the words we use). Amen!
